1. Volunteering at the Brookline Community Fridge 12/14

A group of 6  volunteers from different areas of Boston came out to volunteer today by stocking the Brookline community fridge, so people in need of nutrition (especially around this time of the year) can have access to food. Everyone brought both refrigerated and non-refrigerated items (such as crackers and canned food). It was a great volunteer session and an amazing opportunity to make new friends while giving back to the community.

2. Writing cards for children going through homelessness 12/14

We wrote inspirational cards for children going through homelessness for an organization called School on Wheels, who support children and families in need. The cards contain positive affirmations, and they will be placed in the children's backpacks.

Personal Reflections

1. Benjamin D., Lexington High School

Going to the community fridge and writing cards with Youth for Impact was a great experience. Knowing that I could help make someone's day better with an action that is simple for me is inspiring

2. Gus O., Brookline High School

Stocking the Brookline Community Fridge with Youth for Impact was a really eye-opening experience because it allowed me to see how hard getting and/or making simple meals can be. The fridge was totally empty before restocking it, and volunteering made me feel proud and accomplished because I know that the food I contributed can be used for nourishing someone without them needing to worry about paying. I also think that writing the cards was an engaging and fun experience. Overall, Youth for Impact is an amazing organization and I really enjoyed working with them. I hope to attend more volunteer sessions in the future!

3. Volunteering at Room to Grow 1/11

A group of  7 volunteers helped sort and organize baby and toddler items for families  living under low-income circumstances. Room to Grow provides support for mothers struggling to raise their new born babies, whether through medical support or supplying basic needs, such as toys, diapers, books, etc. We had such a great time organizing large bins and  piles of donated items  to be given to families in the Boston area. It was so great to work as a group  and collaborate together, while contributing to such an amazing organization!

Personal Reflections

1. Anya A., Weston High School

It was such an amazing experience to be a part of Youth for Impact! After volunteering, I felt proud of my impact, as I think about the children and families that I helped support. Volunteering was also a great way for me to get rid of some of my stress and focus on my effort and the positive outcome of my work.  If I never found out about Youth for Impact, I certainly would not have heard about Room to Grow, so I am grateful for this experience, and for the opporuntiy of collaborating with other teens on a project that is really important!

2. Milan S., The Newman School

What I loved most about volunteering with Youth for Impact is that I got to meet other people my age who are hard workers and ready to make an impact. We all worked really well together, and the session was both productive and fun! I can't wait to meet more teen volunteers in the future, since Youth for Impact has definitely brought us all together

3. Reya A, Cambridge Academy

I loved being a part of Youth for Impact and sorting bins at Room to Grow's warehouse. I would definitely attend future sessions, since I now know what it feels like to volunteer and contribute to the well-being of families and young children living in Boston

4. Volunteering at the Goddard House 2/11

A group of  7 volunteers visited the memory care unit of the Goddard  House in Brookline! We engaged  with the residents through fun games and activities. It was great talking to the residents and asking them questions about certain aspects of their life. The Goddard House is such an amazing community, and we look forward to future sessions with them.
